Artist Statement
I reside in Northern England which is full of historical sites and beautiful landscapes.
I make art in order to explore the 'dark sublime' moments that are ever present.
I have a particular artistic curiosity in exploring the following themes:
-
Technology and the Uncanny
-
Memory
-
Speculative futures
I feel that perpetuating 'mysteriousness' within the image assists in promoting novel ways of 'looking'.
Modern technological systems are impacting upon human lived experience in multifarious ways. Detrimentally and surreptitiously altering our relational and affective processes, potentially accelerating us all towards an increasingly dystopian future. My practice led research is interested in the intersection between ‘ Memory’ and the symbiotic relationship between technology, the uncanny and speculative dystopian future/s.
The contemporary relevance of my practice is it invites audiences to explore their own psychological frameworks relative to individual, social and cultural experience/s. Inherent in this process is the examination of how we cognitively situate ourselves towards representations of the 'uncanny' and how best we may leverage current and future technologies to retain and reclaim our shared human heritage.
I work in a range of materials including oils, acrylics and photography.
